Does anyone have photos of a truck cap, preferably Leer, on fiberglass bedsides?

I emailed Tim at Glasswerks and he said his sides will hold the cap, but I want to see the fitment before I commit.

I've also seen other threads around here of guys saying you need to build a support as the sides themselves can't handle the weight.

Anyone running a cap on fiberglass bedsides? I've Googled and forum searched the shit out of it and can't find pictures anywhere.

    Thanks.

Not sure if you are 1st gen or 2nd gen but here's mine with Glassworks 7" bedsides. I haven't put them through any really serious whoop sections but I have recently been beating on it a little more with the shell on and haven't had a single issue.

@whitetoblack I see you're selling your camper shell. What's up? Get over it? Time for a new ride?

Haha. Just decided to mount dual stacked spares off the back of the truck instead and get rid of the tailgate. Maybe will get a new one in the future if I wana switch up the setup again. I am just gonna get a tent mounted instead of needing the shell.

Lol right on. I've seen those roof top tents - they look really good for saving time and hassle. Your truck inspires me to get a campershell and someday long travel to go out and explore the Great Basin. For now I'll sleep on a mattress in the bed and stick to well maintained dirt roads. I was looking for a camper shell on CL and saw yours. Too bad we have different bed sizes lol.

I too am interested in this but for the Softopper brand. I called softopper and they said I would have issues with the install since I dont have the "Factory Plastic rail topper". I don't see how this would make a difference (Just lower the overall height of the topper).

My friend mounted his stock inner rails to the fiberglass and currently has his stock bed cover on it. He is getting a softopper soon. I will post pics once it is done.

Does he have the stock rails installed in the factory location? Here is my bed.

What about the strength of the tie downs? Does the fiberglass make the side rails less reliable?

From the factory, the sides of the bed are somewhat of a weak point. The factory steel fenders give the composite bed strength but this significantly decreases when you install fiberglass bedsides. The "tie downs" are rated for like 150-200lbs of direct line pull which is easy to exceed with ratchet straps. I hardly ever use the uni-strut to attach anything. It is honestly there to hold my fenders in place. I had a friend secure something in my bed and use one of my factory tie-downs and I heard a couple of cracks from the fiberglass :/

I installed some L-track in the bed and I use this along with my shock towers whenever I need to keep anything from moving.
