My ToyotaCare package is ending next month, so I have this week to decide if I should bring my truck in for one last dealer serviced oil change.

The problem, if you could call it that, is my truck only has 11k miles and my last scheduled maintenance with the dealership was 1.5k miles ago. With that said, I'm not exactly sure if I should take advantage of the last "free" oil change with Toyota, or if I should wait for the proper mileage interval.

    Please help! Thanks.

Its free, can't hurt the engine to have fresh oil and filter even before the 5k interval, I say take advantage of it, your engine will thank you.

5100's Soon... Pockets full of cobwebs atm.
My opinion I say skip it and change it yourself. It takes 10 minutes and while you do it you can get a good peek and inspect the engine bay and undercarriage. Just me though. When I had my BMW 330 I found out that they never replaced the paper oil filter after 36k and when I changed the oil and filter the paper filter disintegrated in my hands... Sometimes it's good to DIY that way you know it's done right.

I'd let Toyota go ahead and change it. It can't hurt anything.
While there, I'd pick up a few oil filters. And if you want you can add
a few drain plug washers to go with it.

And maybe a cabin air filter. I'm cheap, so I just buy the ones from Advanced Auto.

    That was simple

Dang, 2 years and only 11k miles! Thats incredibly low! But I'd just let them do the service, can't hurt.

for me, the tire rotation included in the service is why I took advantage of the 2 yr freebe. I'm getting a bit old to hump the 4 tires back and forth.

Ask the dealer of they will honor the oil Change closer to the service interval

I was away from the dealer at one of my services and just had my local guy do it. At the next one I took the truck to the dealership who noticed I skipped a service with them.

The service manager told me toyota would honor the additional service because it was promised to me during the purchase of my truck. He gave me a coupon for a free oil change

I'm not sure if that is a toyota policy or if he was just being a nice guy

The oil change interval is based on both mileage and time. It is 5k miles or 6 months - whichever comes first. So at the end of the 2 year period you should be doing your fourth oil change at a minimum regardless of mileage. At least that is what your maintenance schedule and warranty booklet will tell you. Naturally you can decide whatever you think is appropriate for an oil change interval. But the dealer should be more than happy to change your oil every six months even if you only drive 100 miles a year - that's what Toyota's documentation tells you to do.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm going to get my last oil change from them.
