Hey guys, first winter with the truck so I'm not sure if it's acting strange, or exactly how it's supposed to.

The truck is my DD and I like about (2mi city, 5mi highway) from work, and 10mi from school. So round trip I drive about 30mi a day. I've noticed it's been sounding like it's bogging down more lately and shifting at a lower RPM. The 4th gear slot seems to shift like it should, but D gives me sluggish response. I made some notes and did some tests while driving so hopefully you guys can help me out.

All values are after truck is at operating temp with heater and fan on MED. With throttle between 25-40%, and about 25 degrees outside on flat asphalt.

Idles @ 600RPM (The whole ride)
    Shifts to 2nd @ ~1500RPM/20mph
    Shifts to 3rd @ ~1500RPM/30mph
    Shifts to 4th @ ~1500RPM/40mph
    Shifts to 5th @ ~1500RPM/45mph

Obviously RPM varies by a couple hundred RPM here and there, but it was consistently trying to shift once I got to 1500.

That seems to be how my truck shifts with light throttle input. I think your truck is fine. It does kind of seem that it bogs slightly, but nothing to worry about. I notice it more so going up hills. My truck would ping going up a hill with light throttle, but I switched to midgrade fuel and that helped a lot. You may also want to check your transmission fluid level. A lot of people are noticing that it is low from the factory. There is a how to on here on how to do it.

Im also having this problem I believe. It seems the transmission wants to get to 5th as soon as possible. When I slow down from highway speeds it also wants to stay in 5 unless I give heavy throttle. I don't think this is normal, is it?

If you want to, you can unhook the battery and it will relearn your driving habits.

Had the transmission flushed and it still did what I was describing. Turns out that's just how it is.

it is normal. Mine shifts in to 5th earlier than I think it should.
I live in the foothills of the smokey mountains. And sometimes depending on the road it wants to constantly change in and out of over drive. I drop it to 4 and roll on. I also do this when the truck is cold. As mine shifts kind of hard into OD when it is cold. Again I run it in 4 and roll on until I have to shift or the temperature starts to rise. One the truck is warm it seem to shift fine and not near as hard.

Spend some time lurking around at this link . I have a stockpile of information on the A750 series transmission . http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/te...hift-kit-shift-recalibration-kit-2nd-gen.html

These trucks are designed to shift into 5th a little too early in my opinion , which makes them more fuel efficient but the downside causes driveability issues such as lugging . You might need an engine tune up or a trans service to clean up the boggy feeling . Your complaint is well documented in the above link and there are things you can do to make it better

Thanks for the responses and the link. Glad to hear it's not a major issue.
