I have a 1st generation Tacoma and want to remove the annoying amber color on the AC control panel faceplate. I have been scouring this forum for help and so far I understand that there is an amber film attached behind the AC control panel faceplate. Seems like there hasn't been too many success stories of removing the film without ruining the faceplate. There was talk awhile back about the 4 Runner having the same faceplate that fits without the amber film, however that product has recently been replaced with the Tacoma one.

Does anyone know where I could purchase a new faceplate without the film? Anyone making custom ones or know of a good site to check out? Or any success stories of how to remove it?

For the people who have successfully installed LED in the dash, did you leave your AC panel in amber?

    Any ideas/help is greatly appreciated..

well on mine the bulbs have a green cover that slides onto the bulbs so it gives it a nice muted green glow.

do your bulbs not have these covers on them?

either way the solution is to put colored bulbs in or get colored bulb covers, no need to replace the cover plate

Someone on here replaced all their bulbs with leds and then took his faceplate to a graphics shop and had them make up an identical one with no amber in it. From what i saw he made a couple different versions to try out. the faceplate is basically a sticker on plastic. he peeled the sticker off and had them make a different sticker.

I should have specified it is a 2002, I think yours maybe different. It has three circular knobs, horizontal across the panel.

if the plastic itself is amber then use blue bulbs, blue and yellow make green so it will look green in color with blue bulbs behind it.

I saw the aluminum faceplate while searching the forums in the past but haven't been able to locate the website either.
