Your insurance should pay you book value plus tax, as long as you have a trust worthy insurance company, and your truck is worth more than you owe there is no reason for gap. She works there she has a vested interest in the company making money, not your best interest.... Never take advice from some one who does not have to deal with consequences.....

My credit union covers 120% of value on gap. Plus $1000 toward next vehicle if totaled and financed with them. Also refundable.

If you can cancel still, shop around.

Finance guys are like the shit I scrape from under my fingernails. I sold cars for over a year and those guys are just dirty. Screwed customers and took money out of my pocket on the daily. They would drop the sale price (during final signing) and offer a discounted warranty (which they made big commission on) instead. Without my approval. Directly took money out of my pocket and into theirs, maximizing whatever the bank said the new buyer could finance based on their approval. They do a great job of making it sound like a great idea though....
