Hi, I just bought my first truck... '06 PreRunner, double cab, LB. :). I've been looking for a lumber/sport rack and also want to install a hard tonneau cover. I haven't seen many options out there and was wondering what others have done. Thanks!

I just got the roof rack from Toyota for my new Taco TRD 4x4 2013. It is very sturdy and looks good too. For my needs on getting my two kayaks up there, its max capacity of about 150 pounds is enough. Hope this helps.

I just had a new Undercover "Smooth" tonneau cover installed not two hours ago on my brand new (1 week old) Taco. So far I'm very happy with it. :)

Search out the forums here and you can find other threads about tonneau's vs cabs, and hard vs roll-up vs folding covers as well. The responses in those threads talk about specific brands and models of each. The Undercover brand/lines come highly recommended in those threads (there are other good options as well).

I personally liked the idea of a hard, locking cover and wanted one that was painted to match the rest of the truck.

Thanks for the replies! Your mods look nice, but I think I need bed racks... My kayak is about 65 lbs and 16 ft long. I'm thinking I'll probably need a folding or retracting cover and a locking tailgate handle.

I realized I made a mistake about the max capacity of the roof rack. It is not 50 pounds but 150 pounds.
For the kayaks, I use to do this in my previous truck (a Hilux). I am planning to do the same with the Tacoma. You just need to do the rear "T" shaped adaptation to fit the trailer hitch and that's it.

You might want to double-check that load amount. Mine says 100 lbs, and with two kayaks and a pod, it's not enough. I just removed it (to sell), and will be using a TracRac bed rack instead. For carrying the occasional long lumber or piping, the OEM is fine, but for real loads, keep in mind the cross bars are only anchored to the roof by mostly plastic mounts.

You are absolutelly right Deuxdisesel. It is 100 lb. I was reading something else instead of the OEM rack manual. My apologies.

But regarding the load capacity of the OEM rack for kayaks, you might want to take a look at this: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/61-2nd-generation-2005/389435-roof-rack-kayak.html
Several guys there posted pictures of Tacomas with this rack and up to two kayaks with no problems.
    Cheers!

I'm looking for a tonneau cover for my 2010 Taco. I am a land surveyor and had a costum made Silvershield cover and organizer in my Tundra, the cover would fold up to stand over the bed like a tent.
now I'm so close to buy a Undercover LUX for around $1100, comes painted, but the dealer suggested that I have a look at Century brand. Does anybody have Century cover and can share the experience? thanks

I finally installed the tonneau and racks... a fairly straight-forward install process. I only attached two pics, as there are already a lot online. I did find a good video on youtube showing the install. See the following link.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iHResH-7hQ

The only thing I did differently than the video is with the crossbar braces. Rather than putting them first on the uprights, I slipped them onto the crossbar first, then after tightening the crossbar to the uprights, I tightened the braces.

Also, I'm glad I had previously installed low tie-downs in the front of the bed, because the stock, sliding tie-downs no longer attach, even with the cover folded open. The rack does come with four (4) tie-down rings (which I didn't install) that slide into the same track as the rack towers, but they look kind of funky being silver and on the outside of the rails (maybe I'll paint them black and use them).

If you want to use the bed as a secure storage area, you'll need to get a locking tailgate handle (I'm looking at a handle with lock and camera with rear view mirror monitor).

There's also almost no wind noise, just an occasional faint whistling you can hear when the windows are open. So all-in-all, it may be a bit pricey, but I'm really happy with the setup.

I ordered a contractors rack and can't find any information about tonneau covers that can be modded to work. I didn't want the backflip because I need the full coverage over the cab for longer pipes and lumber. I've ordered this rack http://www.ebay.com/itm/Paramount-16...880733?vxp=mtr If someone made a cover that went around rack brackets, creating a seal, and then a parallel rack system 1" in for these covers that allowed for clearance of the racks and covers that'd be awesome... Any ideas ?
