Alright. Figure I should give my $.02 here. Its certainly not safe to ride in the back, but neither is riding a motorcycle. The fact of the matter is, it can be fun sometimes, regardless of if your redneck or not. Or sometimes, a neccasisty. Say your out with some friends and one of you runs out of gas. Cabs full so the only place is in the bed. Its pretty cool too to ride in the back. Why do you think dogs like it so much. I know were not dogs but come on. Its just fun. As for the videos which were posted. I think as long as your arent jumping dunes or have the truck so full, theres hardly room when people stand, youll be fine (though that was some funny shit). But yea... not safe... who cares. Just dont do anything too stupid while people are back there and stay away from busy roads. Thats my opinion.

And for the bed extender question. If law states that the tailgate needs to be up, and you have it down with a bed extender on, The tailgate is still down and thats what the law states. Up to the law to determine the legality there.

Opinions aside, I drove a truckload of hardtails to Daytona one time for Pepsi 400. We had just gotten into town when one of the guys in back seat climbed out the slider and sat on toolbox, legs in the cab. Before I could get him back in the cops saw us and pulled us over. Said it was illegal for anyone to not have on a seatbelt and since there were no seatbelts in the bed or on the toolbox. he needed to get back inside. No tickets, no arrests. If he had looked in the glovebox , there would have been some arrests, but that's a different story. Oh yeah, no, I didn't have a bed extender.

Regardless of the legality I'd never let anyone ride in mine. All you need to do is get t-boned or roll the truck and you have a pile of dead friends on the road.
