I currently have 265/70r16 tires but I would like to upgrade to 285/75/16. I was wondering if I would have to re-gear if I upgrade or if I could just throw on the bigger ones and be one my way with no problems?

Won't fit without a lift. 265/75/16 will fit on a stock Tacoma with no lift. Usually just have to take the front mudflaps off. No need to regear, even with 285's..

Thanks. If I go with the 285s then I would be getting a 3 inch lift. Any cheap suggestions for a good lift?

I know, I know, but I needed a half ton.
A lot of people have to trim a fair amount of plastic in the front wheel wells ontop of taking the mudflaps off... I don't have any first hand experience with this.. Search around a little there is plenty of material to read

There are also endless threads on "What 3" lift should I get?". Give the search function a shot.

I will get a 3 inch lift as well one day. Probably go with the Toytec ultimate. So I can fit 33s and Rockstar 2s.

Yep 285 you need to trim a bit of plastic. Not much and you hardly tell unless you did a bad job of it. I just use a knife. No need to regear. You will have a different of about 3mph on your odometer. For me at least. Running at exactly 65mph on the odometer and the actual speed is about 68.

Now you might have to trim a bit more than just the plastic depending on what kind of tires your planning to get. I got a mean MT tire and its rubbing the metal on the back a bit when full lock reverse. Its call cab mount chop. But I just need to sand just a bit of metal toward the outer part on each side and paint it black. Problem solve.

Use search or go to the suspension section. PLENTY of thread talk about lift.
