Alright, so, my Fiancé loves to "repurpose" all kinds of different things. She's actually very creative. So, when I brought a bunch of pallets home to stack firewood on, I was not surprised that she had another use for a few of them...

This is what we've been up to for the last couple of days:

    Humble beginnings:
    2DAB5EC6-0E7F-48D0-BC3C-6987BE9B8303_zps_426aa580d18df89974d67fe22e71e77e843575aa.jpg

Pallets cut, trimmed, and reassembled, with plywood sized to put the mattress on:

Pipe legs. You'll see that I added more in later pics:

Our house is 100 years old. This is the door that used to separate the kitchen from the living room. We're using it as a backrest on the bed:

We found this chunk of wood in the crawl space when we moved in. She's been looking for a place to use it ever since...

Backrest and arm rest in place. In this pic I've also started covering the pallet edges with some old barn wood that my Fiancé "found" in a dumpster...

Backrest brace. The back is screwed to the arm rest on the other side. This is what I came up with for this side:

This is where we're at as of now. I finished covering the pallet edges with the barn wood. We left two of the pallet openings uncovered and added bottoms. It makes a nice spot for magazines and such.

Now we need to figure out what we want to do on the left side where you can still see the exposed pallets. We're thinking either storage or seating. Or, both. We'll see.

I like it, and impressive as well for the materials used.

After reading the title and seeing the first few pics, I thought you might be losing your mind, but it looks great! :)

I did have to admit that she was right though. That really hurt. As usual! :D

That came out really well. I'm also a big fan of re-use, especially using pallets. One thing I want to warn you about is the wood itself. These pallets really get around and can carry some very nasty stuff from, chemical and food waste to anything gross you can possibly imagine. Be sure to do your best to clean the surface with mildew remover or something potent like a bleach mixture.
Personally, I like the rough saw marks on the hard wood pallets, but I knock down the really rough stuff with a quick run of my sander over the whole thing. Not so much that nice patina is lost, just to reduce the risk of splinters. Plus it makes me feel like any nastiness I may have missed during cleaning is closer to being gone.
Good luck with the projects! I look forward to seeing more:D

Look out for snakes in the grass guerrilla marketing.

Put old hardcover books in there like a horizontal bookcase, spines of different faded colors and textures, an old encyclopedia set would be pretty cool :)

Thanks again everyone. The book idea is a good one. I like it. As far as dirty pallets, I know what you mean. However, these pallets had bricks stacked on them. Nothing toxic or anything. My Fiancé did clean them up with a wire brush and some sort of cleaner though.
