I have a 2006 x-runner with about 144k on it and I don't know when the last time it was tuned up. I have had it since 97k. What are the best spark plugs and what else will I need to do a complet tune up?

    Thanks:help:

The dealer is a pain in the wallet. Plugs aren't that bad to replace.

I just did a mild tune up on my 08' this past weekend. Plugs, throttle body service, and an upper engine decarbonization. I have 96K miles on it now. I noticed a difference right away. Better throttle response and smoother idle. The main reason I did it was because I noticed some pinging even running 93 octane. I'm curious to see at my next fill up if the pinging goes away.

Plugs were too bad to do for me at least and it took about 1.5 hrs taking my time.

What you'll need to do a full tune up are the following.
Air filter, PVC valve, fuel filter, plugs, throttle body cleaner, possible MAF cleaner and that's about it.

What plugs did you buy? Are there better ones than stock?

"Better"? Not really. It's a matter of opinion. For some unknown reason, Toyota stuck two different brand of plugs in the truck. You have Denso on one side and NGK on the other. I prefer the Denso plugs, but it's your choice. Both are good plugs.

I put in Denso's at $5.71 ea. Regular copper core. My OEM plugs after 96K were worn, but still in decent shape considering the mileage.

Did they seem to improve over the OEM? Were they worth the extra dinero?

    Denso copper plugs are OEM.
