Has anyone had experience with swapping transfer cases in tacomas I bought a transfer case that matched my old one. no automatic disconnecting differential no right rear differential lock but when we took my old one out it had an electronic speedometer and this one has a manual. Will this work? Also there were two electronic solenoids in the housing of my transfer case but not in the one I bought. Anybody got any idea what the two solenoids do?

I did a similar swap on my 96 2.7. You can pull out the whole speedo assembly and swap it. On mine, I had to take the sensor wheel/spindle apart and swap that as well because the cable driven spindle was longer than the electronic one. It's not hard to swap them.

I also had the two solenoids on one and only one on the other. I basically just ignored the one that didn't match.

It all worked fine for about 1 year, then I rebuilt the original tranny/t-case and swapped them back in.

I have an electrical diagram for 1999. It does not show any 'solenoids'. Are you sure thats what they are? Any photos of said solenoids?

Technically, I think they're sensors. One of them should the the sensor for your 4x4 indicator. Not sure what the other one does - but they are not there to control any function, only to sense what's happening. So you can run without them.

The other might be a speed sensor. On my old 22R, the mechanical speed sensor was on the TC. I remember having to replace it.

Can you post the electrical diagram? I'm doing a 4wd conversion and I'm wondering about some of the plugs on my donor transmission/tranfer case.

I put a 1999 4 Runner transmission and transfer case into my 2002 Tacoma when I did my pre-runnner swap to 4x4. Bolted right in, but I had to swap over my park\neutral safety switch as the wiring was different. Other than that, it slips right in.... thats what she said

Sorry to thread hijack, but the new trans has two plugs kinda on top that look like they don't go to any of plugs on the truck.
