How long can I run this speaker with just my truck battery via the bed outlet?

Going out in a few weekends with some buds.

I wanted to use this speaker and the bed outlet to power it ( wanted to keep truck off and just use the battery).

    Here are the specs:

    SPEAKER
    Power Supply AC/DC Adaptor: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Input: AC 100 – 240V,
    50/60Hz
    Output: DC 9V, 2000mA
    Number of Channels: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3
    Frequency Level: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 50Hz – 20kHz
    Speaker Unit: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5" Woofer & 1" Tweeter
    Dimension: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9.2" x 8.4" x 16.8"

Are you able to figure out how much juice this thing pulls off the specs above?

    Thanks for the help,
    Mike

Hmmm... not sure, but I'd assume you can run it until the battery dies.

The actual answer is incredibly complex.

It kinda depends on your battery's amp/hour rating. Let's say it's 30AH, which means they can run a 12v, 3amp device for 10 hours. Your adapter says it's 2000ma which is 2 amps... and it's 9v, so it's pulling much less. I'd guesstimate 12 hours before the battery is dead. Mind you, this is ideal conditions. Batteries loose efficiency rapidly as they get drained and there are a bajillion other factors that can change the actual results. Also remember that a car battery isn't designed to be a pure discharge device, like what you'd find in a cellphone or laptop. It's meant to provide a bunch of power for the starter, then get recharged and serve as a pass-through for the alternator's power generating.

Now if you want to know how long you can run it and still start the truck afterwards in the real world, the number is much less since the starter motor takes quite a bit of juice to get things moving, temperatures are going to be different, the battery won't be pristine, etc, etc. My advice would be start the truck for 10 min or so every 3 or 4 hours to play it safe.

Not 100% sure on this, because I haven't used mine much yet. But I don't think the 110V bed outlet works without the truck idling does it?

This is a great response. THx

I think you can use it with the ignition in the on position ( though it puts out less), not positive yet as I haven't tried it though.

I wouldn't run the inverter without the truck running for over 10 minutes IMO.

I guess I should just get one of those wireless bluetooth speakers vs running the car to listen to some toons at the end of the day.

x2 It typically takes 13 amps @ 12 VDC to make one amp @ 120 VAC using an inverter. A DC to DC converter is much more efficient. Deep cycling a starting battery can prematurely shorten it's life. Starting batteries are designed for a shallow discharge <5% and a high current >300 amps and a full recharge before the next cycle. Temperature also has a huge effect on the CCA performance and amp hour capacity of any lead-acid battery.

I think you are right. I've only used the outlets in the truck bed with the engine running, believe the manual says to run the engine when using the outlets. The outlet only delivers 400 watts. Not sure what the speakers draw.
