I hope you're happy with it, but frankly, I don't see any need whatsoever for such a device, and would expect it to malfunction PDQ.

The P&L together with the hose clamp is all the deterrent you'd ever need, as all you need do is to show a thief that his quick and easy heist won't be so quick after all.

I went with the Gate Keeper some time ago mainly because I don't want any more keys. So far so good...I also like the washer mod, may do that too.

Anyways, thanks for all the good info. Need to spend more time on this forum.

I've had the Gatekeeper and washer mod for almost 3 years, I've been happy with results/cost so far.

My tail gate just has an ugly dent in it as the deterrent. I am in no way recommending this as a mod. Although it was fast and cheap.

Had my tailgate stolen from a 'secure' Travelodge Sleep/Park/Fly in Montreal last week. Shitty.

Fortunately my insurance is covering 100% of a $2300 replacement cost. It's the 4 x 75km round trips and wasted time to get the work done that really pisses me off. I'm installing a power P&L, and EZ hose clamp upon install of the new tailgate.

I was looking at the Gate Keeper, but that is over $50 to get it to Canada.... and can someone direct me to the 'washer mod'? 45 pages is a lot to wade through.

    -----------------------------------
    Edit: Found the washer mod.

The only secure place is in a locked garage. If you have seen the video it only takes seconds to remove. I did the P&L locking handle, hose clamps and have an Undercover bed cover that also covers the gate some.

$2300 for a tailgate? Sheesh. I have what's probably the best means of deterrence, dents. There are a couple of small, but obvious, dents in my tailgate. One look, and you'd say, it's not worth my time.

Check to see if the store has parking surveillance. Most do, and you might be able to ID the person who took it.

I tried that.. there was a palm tree obstruction from where I was parked. I'm not sure if I should get it replaced thru ins or just look for one on Craigslist. My insurance deductible is 500 bucks.

No.. I'm not going to go thru ins for this one. I found one on craigslist for 320. Ins deductible is 500.. It's cheaper just to go outa pocket for it right now.
I've ran into a few other locals that just had there's stolen also... and it's not a bad area. Does suck tho, could have used the money on there stuff i wanted for the truck.
