Hello everyone! I have been using a simple 12v air compressor in my truck for a few months. I finally broke it yesterday. I won't be running any air tools or lockers. I just want to have easy access to filling up a low tire or possibly inflating sports equipment. I have been reading a lot about the mv50 that is for sale on Amazon. It seems like it fits the bill. Has anyone hard wired this unit in the engine bay or somewhere in the truck? How hard would this be? My skill level is novice. Thanks for the input.

I have that exact compressor. It works really well. Comes in a nice carry bag with parts and it fits perfectly behind my rear seats. Fills a tire pretty quickly. Powerful and relatively quiet.

If you wanted it hard wired you would have to run a dedicated cable to it. The reason it connects to the battery is because of the amperage draw. Personally I wouldn't bother. It's easier to just connect it and pump your tires. Plus it gives you mobility with the unit.

Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.
The MV50 is a good portable. Don't mount it. This is coming from someone who did. It will die on you at some point, guaranteed.
If you're looking for a really good mounted compressor for not too much coin, search for "Puma 12V" on EvilBay. $230 shipped to your door, and includes a tank. 3.4cfm, 100% duty cycle. I've put mine through more abuse than it should get, and it's holding up fine. Mounted the pump in the engine bay, and the tank above the muffler. Quick-connects front bumper and rear bumper, plus air bags and horns.
You'll need a 30-amp fuse and 8ga wire for it. And if you mount it in the engine bay, you'll need to do my Hidden Snorkel mod to give it room (an under-$15 mod that helps with creek crossings).

If you want pics of the compressor, and the write-up on the Hidden Snorkel mod:

Note: I modified the switch for the compressor. It took a shit-ton of work to get it mounted where it is, and unless you're really wanting it as a single, compact unit (compressor + switch), I would recommend against it. Mount the switch remotely, or off to the side; it's more work than it's worth to put it on top like I did.
