Not sure how far I'm going to go with this but after spending too many hours installing my lift I figure I have enough effort invested that I'd like to keep track of it here. Thanks to those on this forum who contribute their knowledge and allow me to make better decisions about my truck. Thank you, Toyota, for making an overpriced, under-powered, fairly capable truck that I still like enough to put all this money, time and effort into making something that should have come from the factory at the price I payed.

Everything seemed to fight me throughout the process. Most notable was the banging and bending sheet metal to remove the UCA bolts. All said and done though, no spacers or shims were needed as there were no driveline vibrations. Alignment was no problem either. Everything feels stiffer than stock. I'm hoping it relaxes a bit over time. I went with the ball joint UCAs because of ease of maintenance, no worries of squeaking and travel limitations were negligible for my purposes which is first and foremost a daily driver.

    "Project log" I like it.

So you have the Icons on already? What'd ya get? (stage) I'm guessing stage 1.
How do the Dakars work with the Icon rears?

    Nice truck!

Thanks. Not sure "build" would be appropriate as it suggests fabrication and other major irreversible changes. Not sure I'm down for all that. (At least at this point on my brand new daily driver)
But yeah, basically, Icon Stage 1 ext travel front and rear. No off-roading yet but no issues as far as install and street driving with the Icon/Dakar rear. Just stiff.

I need spacers. Can't decide what size to go with. Any suggestions? Anyone else running spacers on fauxlocks?

I wouldn't go with spacers unless it rubs. Personally I like the wheels tucked in more than out of the body of the truck. Get some sliders and the look will come together.

Don't have a pic but I think it looks funny as is. Sliders are on the list but as much as those things stick out, I think it would make it worse. I'd rather not do the spacers but if installed properly I don't really see a problem.

I agree with MGMTacolover55...looks perfect as is. My least favorite look on trucks is tires sticking out of the flares too much. But it's your call. JMO.

I've been following your progress looking for ideas for my truck.

How much of the 'stiffness' do you attribute to the tires? I believe that the KO2s are still only available as an E rated tire in 16s...

It looks too oem right now. That its, the tires are a little too tucked-in for my preference but I agree some take it too far. But what is perfection? Normally, as a general rule with most vehicles I'd say dead even with the fenders. However these are lifted, off-road oriented trucks. Tire/wheel prominence is appropriate. My goal for the spacers is to achieve a more offroad inspired look while improving on/off road stability from pushing the wheels out and doing so without adversely affecting stuffability into the wheel wells.

Thanks to STiLL WILL for the pic below. He's running a similar setup: TRD Fauxlocks, 285/75s w/ 1.25' spacers:
What do y'all think? Personally, I think it looks good.

Good point. I had to air down the tires from 42 to 38 after being mounted. That helps, and I could still air down more but there's a difference between tire stiffness and suspension stiffness. Personally, I like a fairly stiff setup. However, the Icon Dakar combo feels like it may be too stiff for off-roading and good articulation. Really, who knows until I get it dirty. And no one else seems to be complaining so I'm sure it's all fine.

And for what it's worth, I've driven some really shitty roads at inappropriately fast speeds to test out the suspension and I'll say that it didn't "soak up the bumps" as others claim but it did feel real stable and planted.

First fill-up since the lift and fuel mileage is up!

    Crap! EDIT:
I forgot that I now need to adjust for bigger tires. Funny thing is, the speedo was 3mph fast on stock tires based on GPS.. (Now, it's 2mph slower.)
    Now, time for maths...

    GPS method:
    (50-48)2= 4%(303)= 12.12+303= 315.12/16.38= 19.23mpg -can that be right?
Now adjusted for original faulty speedo reading:
    (50-45)2= 10%(303)=30.3+303=333.3/16.38= 20.347mpg
Now using tire size %change method:
    7.3%(303)= 22.119+303= 325.119/16.38= 19.848mpg

..so yeah, ignore my PM as nearly immediately after that I thought to poke around and came across all this in your sig/etc. Truck is looking good. Sliders are hit or miss, either saving your ass or just weighing you down.

Let me know if you if you have any specific questions. I've tried putting as much info and links of the setup as possible on the first post.

You're right about adding weight. I'd rather keep it to a minimum until I get a supercharger (if I get a supercharger). But sliders would serve enough purpose to warrant the weight I think.

i just checked into the supercharger, hate to think that in a way its a de factor dealer install unless theres a really kickass shop in your area, since the ecu needs to be flashed. its about 4k for the parts etcetc but the followup such as dealing with fuel and whatnot is what gets ya. reflashing is a touchy subject and id rather do the paying for peace of mind thing.. sigh. just another expensive thing to add to the to-do list, right? xD

Yeah, dealing with dealerships has never been good in my experience. The SC is the one thing I'd have to let them do though. When I bought my truck I asked what the SC would cost me if I had them do it and their answer was almost 7k! Unbelievable. From what I've seen on this forum though, is that there's a pretty wide range people are getting it done for. Some get lucky.

Had to modify the fender on the drivers front because I started getting tire rub. Will eventually do the other side the same way.
