So I've read the stock trd skid plate is pretty cheesy. But I'm wondering if it is good/enough protection for overland/exploration type travel?

Would an aftermarket 1/4 aluminum skid plate be a big step up? Thanks.

Light brush and grass ok, much more and it will not take much to bend it. Most stuff in general use such as light rocks flying up is ok as well. If you are going to hit a serious rock, even at slow speed, then a serious plate is what you need. Mine was ok for doing desert stuff and then hitting the mountains needed a bit stronger

Haha. So it's "light brush and grass" rated capable:). Good to know. Guess I should look into some aftermarket skids then. Hopefully, some 1/4 aluminum plates will be enough for my needs. Thanks.

They really are more for show. Considering most people buying the trucks won't ever do serious wheeling they work great for dirt roads or fields.
