So, the wife and I are trying to get a road trip planned for late summer/early fall. We've got ~ 2 weeks allotted and plan to see Colorodo, Utah (I'll be posting a similar question in their region) and maybe jump up to Yellowstone.

What I'd like to know is what are the 'best' non touristy places to hit? We will probably spend the majority of our time hiking, but I've been green-lit to do a little offroading. Also, we'd like to get a taste of what your state has to offer in as broad a scope as possible. Our time frame will be 5 - 7 days in your state.

And, given a late August to early November widow, when is the best time to visit?

Well, I'm obviously an idiot. Gonna go try again in the Colorado thread, which is where this was supposed to go!
