If these chips do work, who has the best price and value, or, who makes the best one please? Mike

I am of the opinion that you cannot increase performance without decreasing gas mileage. You can't increase mileage without decreasing performance. I guess possible exceptions might be changing exhaust, aspiration, weight, or air resistance. Toyota engineers have maximized the mapping within guidelines of emmissions.

Agreed. Millions of post on the topic with facts and figures to back them up.

yea I get all that. To me, my truck has tons of performance already and I don't pull anything and its peppy as heck. I've got tons of room to drop performance down a tiny bit if it meant adding a few miles per gallon, mike

Hey I have another question, the truck in this picture appears to be black.
I really want my next truck to be black as I love that color. I also noticed yours has the 4 doors feature where mine has the access cab. it looks like yours also has a very short bed with that 4 doors feature.
Here is my question, If a buy a late model truck with 4 doors and shortest bed, will the overall length of the truck still be similar to what mine is now?
I like the 4 doors and short bed but I'm looking for the smallest shortest package I can get, mike

My truck is actually magnetic grey. And yes i think the overall length will be very similar, if not exactly the same.

    I'm going to be contrary...

Yes, tuning the ECU CAN increase the performance of the truck. Provided the person tuning the ecu has it fully sorted out.

The engineers at Toyota MUST tune the truck to run on every conceivable kind of crappy gas, and under the most crappy conditions. They do this so the truck will run without blowing up. So they tune it being very conservative...

Now, if you are sure you can get and run only 93+ octane gas (highest octane available), and you can increase airflow into and out of the engine, (less restrictive intake and free low headers and exhaust), AND the ECU and engine sensors have the headroom. Then yes, tuning the ecu to run the engine with more fuel and ignition advance will produce more power than a stock engine tuned very conservatively.

Now has anybody actually hacked the ecu and figured out all the mapping tables? No idea... I know on my E36 M3 the chip, bigger HFM, intake, and exhaust got 30 rwhp... (obd1)

hold on...yes they are all bunk but one mod DOES increase mileage a great deal

there is a type of chip that could monkey with the A/F sensor readings and make the system run extremely lean, and you will get amazing mileage

but the engine will run so hot doing this it will destroy itself within 10,000 miles
(melted valves, burned out front cat...etc.)

and you'll have backfires which can damage the crank/connecting rod bearings

so, NO there are no performance or mileage chip mods. Any mods worth doing are large changes to induction (blower or turbo) large changes to ecu mapping and changes to cam, valves, pistons...etc. and exhaust

there is nothing cheap, most mods that do anything are in the 3 grand category
