I am wanting to chop my exhaust right after the axle and was wondering how/how much the sound might change. I have aftermarket cat-back but I just want a consensus of how the sound changed on your exhaust, whether it may be stock or aftermarket. Thanks.

It won't change at all. It will change when you get closer to the muffler

Won't change. It also won't change the closer you get to the muffler. It will change if you cut it off before the muffler.

If you cut it off at the exit of the muffler you get an horrible resonating of the exhaust under the box.

    Been there done that.

Plus in stop and go rush hour traffic you will have a build up on exhaust gasses under the box and cab which will make their way into the cab.

Now if you replace the cats with a straight pipe . . . .

You'll have to clarify, what is the Reat?

If running an aftermarket exhaust cutting the piping short will make the sound louder when in the cab since its now exiting closer to the cab. Just something to consider.

The first exhaust I got I ran hardly any piping and it was annoying in the cab, ran more pipe out the back and it was a lot better.

But yeah sound wise from the outside with shorter piping it may be just a little louder, but not much.

Mine changed a little bit when I dumped it after the axle. I actually thought it got a little quieter, maybe being under the truck instead of exiting out the side changed it? Or possibly because I lost the TRD tip...I have the TRD catback system.

I cut my 2011 exhaust when I had it right after the axle and it made no change in the sound.

Thanks guys. I was thinking that it would not really change when I chopped it but just wanted to be sure.

No change in sound, cut it at the downward slope, over the axle. Can't see it all hanging down at all now
