    Hello all.

I just purchased a ARE Z Series camper shell for my tacoma.

I have noticed that a lot of people installing roof racks on their camper shell. I want to purchase one, however I know it will be higher than my OEM roof racks. Is there a way you can get a smaller roof rack or ones that mount to the side of the camper shell so that its flush. Reason being I carry a large canoe on the top of the truck and the canoe being higher in the back seems jump and prone to sliding off. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Ray

If you don't need to always have it on, you could get one that can be removed. The rails bolt down, but the cross bars can be unlocked and removed.

It doesn't bother me that they have to be removed or not. I just want them to be level with the OEM ones.

I don't think there is enough room on the Z series for side mounts (http://www.yakima.com/shop/racksystems/permanent-installation/side-loader) - leaving the option for roof mounting.

On the Z series on my Ranger, I used Bolt Top Loaders (http://www.yakima.com/shop/racksystems/permanent-installation/bolt-toploader ) with good success. (I have 2 pair of these I am selling, too. ;) ) Using these might mount the rear of your canoe higher than the front, as you said.

You might need to change the front/cab mount, to raise the front of the boat to keep it level.

What about a set of yakima q towers and landing pads for the topper? The all only need to be the same height if using a three or four bar system... I haul everything on two bars. Rack attack customer service is awesome as well as yakima service. If you have a good shop locally they usually can explain it all.
