    That spring looks normal. I never seen factory springs with a big arch. I think Icon 3 leaf AAL would be fine.

    I'll make an effort today to check out other relatively new Taccoma spring packs. We have a large shopping complex nearby - and a college parking lot - I should be able to make a comparison.

    I was in that same position as you. I went ahead and installed the Icon 3 leaf progressive a little over a year ago, removing the factory overload leaf as instructed. I don't normally haul a lot of weight but have on occasion needed to and it was fine. The rear sits at 23 1/2 inches from center of hub to the wheel well and 23 up front still. The ride quality was greatly improved over stock and plays well withe the Icon coilovers.

    I did the install myself and it was fairly easy but I understand your reluctance to take on that kind of job due to it's demands. I'm well into my 50's and I was pretty sore the next day.

    Westside - In my 50s I might have tried to do the work, now I'm in my 70s - even more reluctant. Pretty embarrassing to have to shout for the neighbor to help me get up off the garage floor.

    Anyway - the shop that was going to do the install of the Icon 3 leaf progressive spring pack called yesterday and related this. Removing the overload leaf then installing the Icon progressive 3 leaf pack will actually decrease the load carrying capacity - I had thought it would increase it!

    I talked directly to Icon later and they agree with the mechanic's assessment though Icon thought it would only decrease minimally. Icon suggested that I might consider re-installing the overload leaf in addition to the pack. Something I hadn't considered.

    The mechanic had contacted Deaver. The plan they concocted was to weigh and measure the truck height empty then re-weigh and measure fully loaded. Since I don't want to raise the overall stanc, Deaver would then take my springs and rework them, probably using the main leaf or whatever they deem necessary. Cost was less than the off the shelf Deaver rears and they would be able to give me (mostly) what I wanted.

    Then the mechanic asked about the newest Toyota Tacoma rear leaf recall and thought that if I'm going the Deaver route I ought to wait and get the new Toyota leafs on and go from there.

    The local dealer, aware of the recall, has no idea when the springs will be available.

    If you go with Dakar leafs, you can remove the second (upper) overload and reduce the lift from about 2.75 inches down to 2-2.25 inches and still be able to carry heavier loads than with stock springs and with no impact on ride.

    I have near 175k miles on my Dakar leafs and they are holding up great with no sagging.

    Thanks for the varied advice - that's why we look at TacomaWorld.

    The mechanic took my 4 leaf TSB rear springs down to Deaver. Looking at what I had, what I wanted, weight when fully loaded and so forth Deaver concluded that their "expedition" new spring pack would give the results I had hoped for. Rebuilding mine was not in the cards.

    So, OK. New springs went on yesterday. Picked up the truck today, on road ride seems just fine, the back is up an inch and a half perhaps. After a week or two of driving I will remeasure and compare to my "before" measurements.

    Next trip will be no off-road stuff but towing a 18 foot travel trailer. I don't expect to notice anything different. Then a few days later a trip to Baja with the truck fairly heavily loaded and off for a "pole line road" adventure.

    That trip will be the real test as far as I'm concerned.
