    Hi there all,

Not terribly auto inclined, so this may be a dumb question.

I have a 2014 4x4 DCLB, with 13500 miles on it. Southern California, really no harsh weather, truck has seen snow a bit, been on the trail a few times, but really more of a daily driver.

Truck is mainly stock, but for the MB TKO wheels.

Front brake pads look great, shiny and clean. The backs, for the last few months, have started to snow more and more red (I assume) rust. Is this normal? Truck has been in for dealer service (oil changes, inspection, tire rotation) at the recommended intervals, 5k and 10k.

Is this normal, or do I need to have this looked at. Thank you in advance for your help!

    Here is front pad:

Here are a few of the rear:

Thanks again for looking and helping.

Yeah, don't sweat it. The insides should be fine (assuming it does brake normally. If the parking brakes works as it's supposed to, you are ok.

If you don't like the look. Take off wheels and use a wire brush.

Perfectly normal. The front shiny part is the rotor and it's shiny because the brake pads rub any surface rust off every time you use the brakes. The rear is the outside of the drum. Pads rub on the inside of this drum so rust buildup on the outside is typical.

It's not super noticeable with stock wheels but it stands out with the black wheels. I took off my wheels, cleaned up the drums with a wire bursh, and them sprayed them with black high-temp bbq paint. They are flat black now and don't show any rust.

Your rims show quite a bit of the drum. I'd clean those drums and paint them.

As others said, drums are fine, no problem.

It's normal.. Sand and clean them down while they're still installed, then remove them, and prime and paint black with VHT paint.

I think your your truck will likely catch fire and explode from what I see in the pics. Run for your life.

Hold on... Just read some of the above posts... Looks like you're good. My bad. Carry on.
