How many tried using loctite on the bolt rather than anti-seize? I don't plan on regularly removing the bolt, so wouldn't it make more sense to use loctite to secure the bolt in place/prevent rust? Just throwing ideas out there, what do you guys think?

Anti-seize is to prevent galling, corrosion and seizing. Not that you plan to but if you should ever need to remove them, corrosion would lead to using more torque and/or seizing of bolt in position with possible breakage due to additional torque required. Properly torqued the bolts aren't going anywhere so I doubt you need loctite.

When I did the mod I did not apply anything to the bolts. SoCal… rust isn't a big problem here. :D

You may want to check your bolts. I'm in San Diego too. This is what happened after 2-years to my bolt after doing this mod:

    6a8956781018a10f328c5a8e9bd05382_8910596b07d772983ed6e1d7e10a30bd913356d8.jpg

Water in the bed from rain or garden hose will seep under the washer, where there is a little cupped space...the water will pool up in this space and corrode the bolt.

I cleaned up my bolt well and applied a light coat of grease and put it back in, I also sealed under the washer with roofing sealant. I have a shell on my truck now so water is not a problem now...

For what it's worth, factory replacement bolts are about $9.00 online.

Yikes. I might have to check those puppies. I do run with a DiamondBack cover over my bed and really never spray it out with a hose. Occasionally shop vac out the desert sand and gravel.

Thanks for the pics. Next time I am tinkering with my bed configuration I'll take a look. The front most ones will take some effort to check since I keep a very large hinged action packer secured to those D-rings.

Loctite should not be necessary on these bolts. If you are worried about them, check the torque a few times the first year and then forget about them. Remember if you do use anti-seize to torque the bolts about 20% less then factory spec. due to reduced friction during torquing.

I wouldn't use loctite on something that is in, or goes through, plastic. Imagine trying to torch the bolt to remove it.

Heat is only required for red lock tite. Blue, purple, and green don't require heat. All the same, any grade (or color) of thread locker is unnecessary for bed bolts.

I own a 2007 DCSB and cannot get the bolts out. I think the Georgia weather has done its damage. Tried a breaker bar and still wouldn't work. What's the next idea? My optimism for this mod holding my kayaks is dwindling.

Rust penetrate and a t55 torx with an Impact. I'm from middle GA and never removed my bed bolts. But I have a creaky drivers lower control arm. I guessing corrosion there.

Had the same issues. Used Fluid Film and let that sit for a while then breaker bar. Worked!
    Oh...then, anti-"sneeze" FTW.
