2009 4x4 DC. So I'm thinking one of my front wheel bearing have to be changed but not sure. I'm going to jack up the front tomorrow and see if I can tell by that.

I do have the humming sound but the only thing is that there is also a screeching sound in the front end when I reach 20-30 mph and then sometimes when I take a right or go up hill at low speeds. Is that common with wheel bearing failure?

When I accelerate it does feel like there is grinding in the front and also there is vibration felt in the floor. I'm just wondering if something is wrong with my front diff or do you think its just the bearings?

Jacked up the front and there is no play in either front tires and when I rotate the tires it sounds ok, no grinding.

No screeching now, but when I accelerate around 30 mph it sounds like there is grinding in the front and more vibration. It goes away at higher speeds.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I seem to have the same noise/feeling, but can't tell what it is. My mileage is around 87k. Is there some common issue that pops up around this time?

I have 74k....I was thinking the same thing. my 07 had 109k when it was totaled and only had to change the U-Joints so I guess some tacomas are different than the next. But my 07 wasn't 4x4 though.

Anyone have an idea...could it be a universal Joint maybe? And how can you check the u joints to see if they need to be changed except from the noise?

The typical way to check a wheel bearing while driving ..... While driving straight, in the speed where you feel or hear the vibe, slightly turn the wheel to the right then the left. If the sound quiets while turning right, it's the left wheel bearing and vice versa.

I had a wheel bearing go at 40k and the other at 99k on my '06. This is an issue that can and does happen randomly and could pop up at any time. There are also reports of front diff bearings going bad but typically in lifted trucks, this one is much less common.

It doesn't stop when I put it 4x4...I saw that post and tried that.

I'll check that turning method today.

    Thanks.

The vibration has got worse so I'm pretty sure its a bad u-joint. Going to get new ones this afternoon. Do 4x4 have 3 also like the pre runners?

And trying to decide if I want to change them myself or have a shop do it...I installed AAL, front spacers, BHLM and regular maintenance on my 07 so not a rookie but no expert either. How difficult is it to change out? Don't want to muff up my drive shaft.

I called 2 Toyota dealerships near me just to see what they would charge for changing the U-joints and they both said they don't do that anymore and they would replace the whole driveshaft for $1600. Said you can have balance issues when the u-joints are changed out.

Called another shop by my work...same thing but they charge $1400. I had a 07 Tacoma with the same issue and bought the u-joints & had a shop by my house put them in and it was good for 30k miles until it was totaled in a wreck.

So I did they same thing yesterday. I've moved so the shop is about 30 mins away but worth it. They replaced them and no more vibration and the squealing noise is gone. Mechanic said the front and back looked bad, middle one was ok but I had them change all of them. Total $170...I'll keep them greased so hopefully it will last. Even if I have to change them out again down the line it beats paying the stealer-ship $1600.
