I just bought a 2015 Tacoma. Double cab, short bed, off-road package.

The manual states the truck has a capacity weight of 1040 lbs.

I'm adding a Leer 100R topper which should be about 180 lbs. I'll also be adding a Thule rack to the topper and another one on the cab (3 bars total). I'm guessing that's another 25 lbs in racks.

That leaves the capacity weight at roughly 835.

There will be times I will be driving up bumpy dirt roads in the mountains. At these times I could have four people in the cab, 300 lbs of gear up on the roof racks and another 140 lbs of gear in the bed.

Figure about 720 lbs in people plus the 440 lbs of gear, that's 1160 lbs loaded in/on the truck.

That puts me roughly 325 lbs over the capacity weight while driving a few miles up some bumpy dirt mountain roads.

Is this going to be a problem if only done 10 times a year with each time only being 5-10 miles with that load?

    Thanks

You'll be fine! Just upgrade your rear leaf springs to OME Dakar leaf packs in order to increase capacity. Also get some beefier rear shocks to help out.

I have an 08 that came w the shitty spring and would bottom out the rear suspension real easy with just 5-600lbs in the back not including passengers. You should have the better spring pack so It shouldn't be a problem. I've had OME Dakars since 2009 and never a problem since. Even w a 1300lb camper, wife and kidz, 2 dogs and a ton of gear/food/beer on forest service roads and ocean beaches. Yes the truck can handle it. Been beating the crap out of it for work and play since 2008 80k miles no issues yet.....I'm sure they'll come. Someone else will have to chime in though on the current spring pack. That sounds like a daily load for me minus 4 full sized passengers.
