I'm giving my '96 Tacoma to my son. Consequently I'm going over the truck and fixing a bunch of little stuff that I've just lived with -- but I'd like to clean up for my son.

For example, I have the original radio. The volume knob serves three purposes -- push in to turn on/off. Rotate for volume. And if you pull it out, rotate to adjust the balance. Over the years the knob fell off a few times, I could normally pop it back on. But at some point it fell of and broke. I can't get it to stay on.

If this something I can find a replacement part for? I realize it is a $0.50 piece of plastic, but kind of an important one.

I would just get a new aftermarket one for it. You should be able to find one for maybe $100. Then you'll need a $7 or so harness and you're set. Better sound and more options for sure. I got one at WalMart of all places. It was an entire Sony setup with 6.5" speakers and 6x9s for a little over $100 one Christmas. It sounds better than the $300 radio I put in my car with Polk speakers.

Brake Weight, I had suggested this to my son. Apparently having a cassette is very "retro-hip" these days, so he is asking to just fix the knob (Plus I think he is trying to save me some $$$$). But I was thinking even if I did fix the knob, it wouldn't hurt to upgrade the speakers some. I'll try to push this again.

    Cassettes. Go figure....

May can take a drop or two of some Gorilla glue to the remaining portion on the inside of the knob and put it back on. GGlue will swell up and take a while to harden, so be cautious. Maybe pull the radio and prop it face up to try that so that it doesn't cure crooked.

Have you called around the local pick and pulls? An old cassette radio isn't a hot item nowadays.

I thought about the Gorilla Glue. I love that stuff, but it tends to "foam" and spread. I'm concerned it will foam into the actual push/pull/rotate mechanism of the metal rod it it attached to. I guess I could start with a tiny drop and see if it works...
