Rugged Fails will probably go 40,000 miles of average highway/city travel before hitting the wear indicators. But that's only 20,000 miles of the tires performing as designed...and they aren't designed to perform very well in the first place. They only thing they do well is be light which allows Toyota to make fuel economy claims.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking. I'll run them until maybe next winter unless I see problems sooner.

How's the ride quality of the Rugged Terrains?

I took mine off my truck within a thousand miles when I could still sell them on CL for good cash. I think I got about $400 after I put on some 265/75/16 Cooper ATP's. Sell them now and they will pay a huge chunk towards some better tires.

Here in the southwest, they are probably a great choice for all the PreRunners that I see around. There are thousands of miles of well groomed desert and mountain dirt roads, where you will never need 4wd, but where folks might want to venture occasionally. Same with the occasional trip to the mountains to play in the snow.

When you need a new pair, just get them slightly used and cheap from other who have removed them for something more capable off-road.

i just went through my first winter with them brand new as i got the truck in Oct. Not the greatest, not the worst. I live on some trying back roads and got home just fine with a steep drive. Cant vouch for any off road performance but unless your going to get serious into it, drive'em.
