Hey folks, just picked up a nice little ‘01 5 speed without a radio in it. I’m wondering, does anyone know if a can swap in a ‘03 corolla cd/tape radio unit? Thanks

I am pretty sure that the wiring would match up and the radio would work because Toyota wiring harnesses are generally the same, but '03 was a redesign year for the Corolla; The dash of that of that generation of Corolla is "sloped", and I don't think that it would fit very well in the dash of a Tacoma. I prefer aftermarket radios so I can get Bluetooth, etc; But if you want to go for a stock appearance, you're better off getting a cassette/CD combo from a 2001-2004 Taco. It'll fit right in! My buddy John (@Taco critter) is an excellent source for questions about 1st Gens as well...

By the way, welcome to TW! :hattip::wave:

Would a 2003-2006ish Corolla radio fit in the dash of a 1st Gen Taco? I don't think it will because the radio is contoured to the dash of the Corolla...

Doesn't your white truck have the stock cassette/CD combo? If a 1st Gen owner doesn't want or need Bluetooth, CarPlay, Android Auto, or a backup camera, I think that particular radio is the way to go...

When I drove my friend Gwyn's '04 AC TRD Off-Road, I was surprised by how good the stereo sounded...

The truck has an aftermarket JVC head unit with the stock speakers, and it sounded ten times better than the stock system in my truck!

With the Tacoma Brackets I bet it would fit perfect.

Maybe it is the same radio

Thanks for the welcoming contributions, I’ll take out the corolla unit this weekend when I’m off the clock and give it a whack on the taco. Would be fun to save another buck or two eh? Peace, beef.

I know that the plugs on the Highlander and Rav4 headunits are the same, but the whole thing is about 3/4" wider then the Taco HU.

Id go to the junkyard with pics of what you want and find a match. Heres my old one for reference.

Unless u like the look of the stock, an aftermarket has more features and will boost your speakers a little bit
