Couple more bike nerd stuff, I had a SHIMANO SLX shifter & XT RD installed in place of my sram NX setup. Then I got matchmaker bits to combine my new dropper lever (PNW loam lever) with left brake and right shifter to right brake so I only have ONE CLAMP on each side of my bars. This is seriously so pleasing to me. Also chopped the steer tube on my gravel bike. Getting these babies DIALED IN.

before (notice how busy each side of the bars are, & the garmin jumping out at me on the top cap). And look at how clean it is afterwords.

 

I'm sure the 5.29s are great for the 37s. If you had stuck with your 35s would you have any reservations around the 5.29 vs 4.88 gears? I'm an hour from the nearest solid trails and 3+ hour drives to the coast aren't uncommon. Outside of that I'm mostly bopping around town with a 1x/year big trip to CO. 4.88s feel safe but I really love the idea of the low gearing for the trails. Thanks!

 

I have 5.29 on 34-5s, if you know you’re maxing out at 35s then 4.88
But once you get 35s you might want 37s..

 

Agree to disagree. Even 5:29 on 35’s was just fantastic I’d do it again 100x. They are so powerful and the crawl speed is nice and low and it doesn’t SCREAM on the HWY like many think it would. Barely 2800RPM IIRC at 72mph with 5:29 and 35’s

 

Got to fly around town in a turbine R44 yesterday at a Christmas party at Quantum helicopters (friends of ours own this flight school). What a blast. My 2 & 5 year olds loved it. AVIATION IS SO BADASS

 

Thats awesome! I haven't got to fly a turbine R44 yet just a piston one. Got a ways to go before I can legally take my boy for a ride.

 

Life has been busy, kids and holidays mean this Dad hasn’t been focusing on truck work. I have been riding my bike more than ever though so that’s good. Also been battling an insanely annoying inner ear inflammation (vestibular neuritis). Basically been dizzy for a couple weeks for all waking hours. Sometimes to a point of not being able to walk. It’s getting slowly sorted out over time with steroids for now. Merry Christmas everyone.

These Yokohamas are not sketchy at all in the rain. Color me impressed. Coming up, finally going to get a few things done

1. Replace PS cv axle
2. 45mins of hammer time to DS lower inner fender
3. Painting 5 replacement beadlock rings stainless steel silver. Gonna switch up the blacked out look I currently have.
4. Install rear 1.25” spacers for shock relocation clearance & big tires.

I’ve absolutely loved my yokos in the wet, such a great all around tire as far as I’m concerned. Also I don’t know if you’re left or right handed but for me being a righty; hammering that DS wheel well is so awkward swinging backwards
I’m also excited to see those silver rings! Right there with you on the black on black being a little much for my taste.

I know right, once I saw it it made me want to remake mine similarly. Bobbed bed plus the tucked bumper would be great. I never hit my rear though so it would be pointless for me. If I could do it over I would do something like yours, but my bedsides were already cut up higher.

More bike mods.

steel all road bike got some 44cm salsa cowchipper bars. These are a tad wider than stock bars & have more flare. Soooooo perfect for chunky rowdy stuff. Also new top tube storage bag and saddle roll & stem top cap & bar tape of course. Get her all muddy, man what a difference these bars make.

 

Then, put new Christmas presents on my mtb. PNW bars & stem & dropper post lever & grips & then trimmed my steer tube so that it’s ULTRA dialed. Couldn’t be happier with how refreshed my front end is now. There’s something about a trimmed steer tube to JUST above the stem with a low stack height. So groovy. Also new top cap in bronze (AZ Flag)
