Hey. 911 here. Was backing out of my driveway and the “TRAC OFF” and check engine lights came on. I assumed it was because there was some loose gravel and the traction control system detected some slippage, but it never cleared, even after turning the truck off. I limped to the closest dealership with no power in 1st or 2nd gear (it was fine in 3+) and the shifting was super rough. Service managers said they needed to look at it and rambled on about mice eating wires when it got cold and that they can’t get to it until after Christmas…which obviously screws me for family plans and work. Do y’all have any idea what is wrong? 2017 DCLB OffRoad. Thanks!

The TRAC light comes on for a lot of reasons and seems to come on with the CEL sometimes even if it has nothing to do with the traction systems.

Easiest thing is get it to autozone or similar and have them run a code scanner. Could be as minor as a loose gas cap that needs tightened (get gas recently? tighten to the click), moderately annoying like a wheel speed sensor or battery starting to go out, or pretty bad like a P2441 emissions code.

@Gunshot-6A is exactly right. I've got a new stant locking gas cap and if I don't get it quite tight enough, I get CEL and Trac-off. That wouldn't explain the lack of power and rough shifting though. Get a cheap OBD scanner so you can check and reset codes yourself.

You need to pull the codes but it could be as simple as a bad AF (air fuel) relay. Swap the fog light relay with the AF relay in the engine bay and see if that fixes it. That fixed my problem codes of P0031 and P0051. Also check the AF fuse

dealership called and said it's almost certainly rats making a nest in the intake and chewing sensor wires. They're taking the intake plenum off to see, but apparently it's not that easy?

That sucks, hopefully insurance will cover the damage if it was mice.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Same sentiment here. Just got my Kubota subcompact back with a new engine. Mice nested in the air intake and got sucked into the engine when I tried to start it. The debris destroyed the compression. $6K lesson and now I'm at war with the mice.

I carry a small aluminum pump mister in my truck that has several drops of pure peppermint oil mixed with water in it.

At least once a week I go around the engine bay giving everything a spritz of this sharp smelling mist.

Mice and most other rodents can't stand it.
