You buy first and then the account is setup in CS (it's ass-backwards, I know)

Shares are bought in batches weekly and then you'll get a statement in the mail, at which point you can set up your online account.

From "purchase" to finished takes about 7-10 days

Please note, you are not able to set a buy price. You will get whatever the market price is when the batch purchase goes through.

CS is not a brokerage. Their model moreso supports people who set it and forget it on monthly purchases.

 

You're right. And I'm only getting this second hand from my dad so this is obviously meaningless and CS is infallible.

Their attorney is even having a hard time getting anywhere so apparently lighting a fire under their butts doesn't mean much. Computershare may be the best place to hold your shares, but they sure as hell wont be easy for your kids to access once you're gone...

I wasn't trying to pick on you, as it clearly sounds like there's some issues with your particular situation, but I wanted to just note that CS is indeed the safest place to hold shares (like you said)

At any rate, I hope it all gets resolved quickly for you.

Not when CS locks down the account when they receive notice that you've passed.

No no no, my parents spent about a year trying themselves to access everything with the occasional assistance of their attorney. Finally, my parents gave up and put their attorney on it 100% and even the attorney is struggling to make progress.

Yall know way more about this whole system than I do. Just take this as a warning to make sure all your bases are covered. Sometimes, even when you do your best to ensure everything is sound, it isn't...
