It sounds off, pull the cover and bring the crankshaft mark to TDC #1 and take a picture of the cams. Sounds like she is running advanced.

It’s not right. Something is off.
It sounds like you have compression issues, which is a classic sign of timing being off (after doing a timing belt)

Good thing it’s not an interference engine.

This is another reason why it's best to change the bearings and the tensioner at the same time. You sort of half a**ed the job by doing only the timing belt. The tensioner could be bad. In your other thread I think you mentioned you just bolted on the old tensioner, without pressing it and pinning it. That wasn't the correct procedure.

    I missed the other thread.
Yeah, definitely should repin the tensioner.
Or better yet, replace it (Aways replace)

With the tensioner unpinned, I don't know how it would be possible to get the belt on correctly. It's bad enough without it.

Another idea, did you get the crank sprocket washer on correctly? The one that the CPK reads? I think it is beveled and only goes one way.

Edit: The cpk reads off the sprocket. I suppose the washer or sprocket could be backwards.

I never took any of the sprockets/gears off. I put the washer back the way it came out. It's got a notch as well so I matched it up with that.

So, will I need a new belt since it skipped teeth and might be damaged now? This was a brand new belt from Toyota.

New belt and a new tensioner. Or get the complete AISIN kit for $200 and do it right.

No it didn't, highly unlikely. If you're going off those marks they won't line up on every revolution until the crank mark lines up.

I just searched what that means. Now I know and am happy. I was subconsciously planning on how I was going to part the truck out...

notice the two marks on the crank gear? One is for the crank position. The other is for the timing belt position.

The pink mark is lined up on the mark on the oil pump. The other dot is lined up to the timing belt crank mark.

I didn't pull the bottom cover off to check the crank mark. Initially, when I put the belt on, I lined up the cam marks with the notches on the cams, and the crank mark with the divot on the crank gear/sprocket.

If the belt moved that many teeth the engine wouldn't run.

This. Once you turn the motor, the marks no longer line up with the belt. Need to look at cam sprocket to timing mark behind the cam sprocket. Something one should know if attempting a timing belt job.

I made sure that the crank mark and the cam marks were in TDC position when I took the old belt off and put the new one on. I made sure the match the notches for the cam marks and the divot for the crank mark on the belt.
