They claim 2% better fuel economy over 0/20 Anyone try this in their 2.7, yet?

I started using pure water a while back, can't get much thinner than that. I am going to add Water Wetter to it and maybe knock it down a point or two on the thinness scale.:anonymous::crapstorm:

I would like to see how that oil handles high temps. Thick oil is better for maintaining film strength and oil pressure at high temperatures and loads.

the 2.7l calls for 5w-30....why would you stray from this? that's what the guys who designed and built the thing said should be in it!

i4 oil needs changed at some point (or at least toyota deemed 0w-20 ok to use in it) but 0w-16.... W.T.F! stick with 0w-20.

I would love for Toyota to make this the required oil weight for the 2.7L, that way the same engine would have had 4 different oil weights in a ten year period.:facepalm::facepalm:

between different years they had a number of different oils, basically ive determined that any of those oil will work for a second gen 2.7, but it would be better to stick with what is required for your year.

To me it just seems rediculous. l bet the best you can expect is the quoted 2% improvemrnt in mileage.
That would be about .3 or .4 mpg at the 'very' best.
I'm not interested in going to that thin of an oil where l am. It hardly ever gets below 16C (or 60F). I'll keep the thicker viscosity for my own piece of mind.

Unless you live North of the Arctic Circle during Winter,Use a 0W-30 instead of 0W-16 or even 0W-20. If 5W-30 is recommended, then stick with that!!! Engine will be JUNK by 75-100,000 with that 0W16 and 0W20.

0W16 is common in a lot of new cars, especially the 2.0 Toyota Corolla Hatchback.

Ironically, we took the car if for one of the free oil changes and the receipt said bulk 0W20.

    My 2TR-FE says 0W-20 so that's what I use.

(we do use the "new" oil in some 2019 and 2020 Lexus vehicles)
