0-60...?

I agree, I'm quite impressed with mine. Never really tried to see how fast it could go but it scoots for a truck. Bet it could beat lots of V8 trucks from the same year. Makes me wonder how quick a 4.0 Tacoma is. Toyota tends to overbuild their stuff to meet maximum performance. I think the 5.7 Tundra is the fastest truck in it's class.

 

Just did 0-60 in about 8secs. Giving the engine a complete tune up and adding and exhaust/intake gained me a second even having a bigger tire. Right now my speedo is about 15% off. Anyway to fix?

 

The 2nd gens are much much faster.

Which direction? Reading low? Is it displaying 45 when you are going 60?

 

ya even supercharged with meth and 2.2 pulley its about 7 seconds.. i never 4wd launched it at high revs on asphalt but i wouldnt be surprised if I could manage 6 seconds flat.. highway speeds on 30inch tires i went toe to toe with a stock evo8, he started walking me around 120 which at that point stability seemed dangerous and i was losing anyways..

 

That was at the drag strip right?

Not to mention these trucks have a speed governor at 105 so......

 

Reading slow. 100km/h is more like 87-90 on the dash. Not that big of a problem but i like to see my true speed on the highway.

I had a new frontier as a rental a couple months ago. About the same size as the taco, about 10x the power and acceleration.

And also the same turning radius as my 1990 F250. It was bizarre, never had to 5 point a turn into a parking place while driving essentially a gokart before. My f250, it's simpler to get where you're going and buy a new truck already pointing the right direction home than it is to turn around.

 

Well its faster than my 04 corolla s and it still has stock gearing. Wish you could put a blower on a 96 though...

Larger tires will do that. But 15% error is quite large, even for a tire size upgrade. How accurate is that? Is that what the GPS on your mobile device is showing or is it just an estimate.

Only two things will make your speedo accurate from here, one is smaller tires. Anther other is to regear. If you are have 4.10s now, going to 4.88s will throw the error the other way. The speedo will read high.

 

Gps on my phone (xperia z3) shows 115 while the dash shows 100. Seems to read right on the money when i tried with my corolla. Stock tire size on my truck was the 225s not the 31s by the way. I have a proper gps that i can try later

 

The video you posted was from a Tacoma, so really a '96 model right? There were no '95 Tacomas. The '95 model was a pre-tacoma. In the vid it sounded and performed like a v6 so it also did not come with 225s, despite what the door sticker says. My sticker says the same thing, nope, no 225s.

The v6 trucks came with either 3.91 or 4.10 gear ratios. What is the gear code on that same door sticker? With an auto i'd bet 4.10s

 

96 sr5. Sticker says 225 tires and 3.91 gear ratio. I bought truck last year with 235s on it and after installing my rear locker it would appear the gears have been replaced with 4.10s by previous owner. Also my speedo needle will shake up and down every now and then im assuming thats not normal.

 

Unlike the '98 and newer Tacomas, you do actually has a speedo cable. The newer ones are by wire from a sending unit.

I would say your cable is on the verge of needing replacement. Is it making noise yet?
