We have had 10% for at least 20 years here I have yet to have any issues. I do not drain any fuels from the 7 seasonal small engines I own I turn them off and park them. My snow mobile has twin carbs when I started it this year it did so on the first pull and have been running around with last years fuel no problems and I never have had any with it. Yes ethanol picks up moisture that is why it was sold years ago for winter use in a bottle when fuel lines used to ice up. Just about any gasoline engine made can tolerate 5% water in the mix. It is beyond me why people have so many issues with ethanol I can't be just that lucky.

    I get ~22mpg with E10, so on E0 I would get 25mpg??

No I didn't mean that. I have no idea what it's going for around here. I just meant that if E10 costs $2.60, then $2.70 would be the break-even point for buying E0. Less than that you're making money, more than that you're losing money.

yeah the sample size is kinds small on that one, and we might run into a reproducability issue when doing a guage RR becasue of variation in driving conditions...also a MSA has to be done....or we lower the condidence level and just say - "It'll be fine" :)

Exactly. This is why it is a race fuel, the fueling rate is higher because of the energy content but if you don't like spark knock with high compression engines ethanol works. Many of the vintage hill climb race cars still use 100% ethanol.

You know, I am totally with you. People bitch and moan and complain about small engines needing carb work due to ethanol- I'm sorry, I do not see it! I haven't been able to buy ethanol free gas for about 15 years myself and I have an abnormal amount of internal combustion engines in my possession. I have three snowmobiles, 2 motorcycles, 3 outboard engines, 2 chainsaws, 2 ice augers, weedwhackers and lawn mowers... backpack blower a snowblower... it goes on and on. My oldest engine that sees regular use is a 1957 Evinrude 3hp outboard- it has no problems running 10% ethanol. I have ice augers from the 70's and 90's, a snowmobile from the 80's... they all start up and run fine. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I used to rebuild carbs a lot more when I was younger than I seem to need to do now.

Yes, it's a fact that fuel economy is decreased with ethanol blends. But I have been hearing horror stories for a long time about people that say ethanol is going to cause problems in my fuel systems. I have been concerned about it for a long time as I am a fairly serious fisherman that owns multiple boats and snowmobiles used for fishing. I have not had a single problem that I could blame on ethanol.

    WELL SAID.

I too have a Craftsman Lawnmower (12 years old), Snow Blower (12 yrs old), Weed whacker (12 yrs old) and a 54" Garden tractor (2 years old). They have seen NOTHING but E10 (89 Octane because that is what I fill my truck/car). I have NOT had any issues in the last 12 years.

Over the last 12 years I have bought 7 new vehicles and ALL of them have seen nothing but E10 (89 and 91 octane) and no problems. I do NOT care for these "long term issues craps" because I will REPLACE these cars way before that....

    Just a comparison: E10 91 octane is $3.05, E0 91 Octane is $3.95 (they do NOT want us to use E10 I see). The gas station I use have 6 different fuels: Diesel (most expensive), E0 91, E0 87, E10 91, E10 89, E10 87 (cheapest).

Not to mention a lot of people used to put ethanol into fuel in winter to prevent water freezing in lines.
A lot of "problems" stem from the fact that before ethanol it was that crazy alcohol they derived from coal. That thing was crazy acidic and it would eat through rubber lines like no tomorrow. Ethanol is just alcohol that people drink. :D
Edit: another thing people dont realase is that water mixed with Ethanol will burn. Its goign to be crappy burn but it will burn. Thats why before ethanol was added to fuel people used to add it by themselves.

What part of Texas are you in? Looking at the map for "pure gas" there isn't anything local for me and was wondering where you might be getting yours from.

I live in the Coldspring area about 40 miles north of Houston. There is one station in my county about 5 minutes from me but it is an unbranded and I prefer a Top Tier station. I only use the local station when in a bind.
I drive to Buna which is about 82 miles away and haul back Conoco E-0 gas. I have a set up of two 55 gal tanks where I can haul up to 110 gallons at a time on a trailer, but I seldom haul that much unless someone else also wants some. Usually I just use 5 gal cans in the back of my truck which I have several of. Legally the max amount that can be hauled has to be less than 119 gallons according to DPS Hazmat. Over that you have to take a course, be certified, and post placards on the vehicle. Failing to do so is a serious fine. I was told around 10,000 dollars worth. I usually go once a month.

The closet one I know of to you is in Crocket about 80 miles away.

I can only tell you of my experience. I get about 10% more MPG with the E-0. I find that true in both of my Toyotas. My Corolla is rated at 42 and I actually have gotten a little above 49 HWY. I average 46 mixed driving.

There is a big difference in my trucks performance when I use gas with Ethanol. Have station 1/4 mile from the house with 100% ethanol free. Only place I fill up.

Haters are going to hate if you get 10% better mileage it would mean that ethanol has no energy value in it at all in essence it does not burn just goes out the tail pipe. Shoot you can set fire to Jack Daniel’s and it has more water in it than your tank! So when someone does independent dyno testing and comes up with real science instead of “it has much more power” or “my engine feels better” (since when did iron and aluminum objects have feelings?) The very same people that hate ethanol hate the Arabs foreign oil imports do any of you stop to think how much difference it makes in our oil imports? Yeah you guessed it 10%. No it is no longer a giveaway to the farmers the subsidies stopped years ago they were only there to get them going and then were dropped. I see no logical reason to waste money on something that will have all most no effect on my overall mileage or power the difference I would see in a tank full would be about the same as a change in the weather from day to day.

Here is one test using a dyno.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqbsG9-FW3c

Here is another dealing with MPG and emissions

As for the subsidies ending, well sort of, but not exactly. It was a political shell game.
