I posted this request about a year ago and received no positive info about the '00 Taco being an inference or a non-interference engine.

Although my truck doesn't have mileage (23,??? miles), it does have 11 years on the timing belt, and it's beginning to bother me (a lot). I would feel so much better if I knew the V6 '00 Taco was a non-interference engine, and would not be damaged if or when the timing belt failed....!!!!

Any one know positively which one.....!!!

First post as I experienced this last weekend, and joined the site to research. The 3.4 is non interference. I purchased my first taco last weekend and the timing belt took a crap on the long trip home.

There was smoke coming from the timing belt cover followed by a lot of racket. The roller on the water pump itself froze completely as the belt was burning on it. The bearings failed on one of the other roller tensioners, and the other roller didn't spin much and was close to seizing.

Bill was $770 for new timing belt, water pump, thermostat, and the three rollers with labor. I should have done it myself after doing the research but it runs normal now with no bent valves, etc.
