Now that I look at the factory service manual, the factory moonroofs loooked to be all manual. They had latches on them identical to the extended cab rear windows. Looking at parts diagrams of the center console it never really indicates anything about a switch, just the blank divot.

I wonder what it was for.

It's the same mounting position for the top and bottom lids. Just 2 screws hold them in.
If you look at your 98' console, it's the exact same design.

I do have the top latch, the upper compartment is fine. The latch that appears to be missing is the lower one. I feel like the door that broke off had something to do with it.

The truck I pulled it from looked like this, so I'm surprised it's in the decent condition it's in. The console itself is cracked and broken in some places from what appears to have resulted from the rollover.

There are a lot of great parts from that truck and still on the truck. The engine starts right up and I've seen him drive the truck in that condition.

Thing is it pops out. There has to be a reason why Toyota put it there int he first place, and make it removable. Why spend time engineering a divot/pocket into the design when you can just keep it blank?

The new style console also had a coin holder, and that pocket seems horrible for storing more than a couple coins.

Living in the Bay Area has thought me not to leave money or anything of value in plain sight.

This Tundra was parked along a well known park in San Francisco and it had its tires stolen overnight.

Sems like a cool spot for an aux light switch, or a bass boost/remote gain control.

My cruisers from 1991 and up all have them. Maybe from a production standpoint it's easier to fabricate the console without those 'coin holders' in place and then add them as little pieces afterwards?

It looks like it fits the mirror adjustment switch perfectly.

Where else you gonna put your quarters? Luxury, homie, luxury.

Oh yeah that truck is in excellent condition. He even backed it up for me to have better access to the door panels (since I was taking the power door stuff). It didn't even have a steering wheel anymore lol. It starts right up.

Found out what that divot is for. The 2003 Factory Service Manual states that it's the switch location for the power mirrors when your truck doesn't have power windows (thus eliminating the need for the switch portion of the armrest).

Oh so the coin holding blank that's there would be for power mirrors when the taco doesn't have power windows? Nice find.

Yup. Been reading through the whole body electronic portion of the FSM since I'm doing my manual door to power door conversion. I was on the inspection section of power mirror portion and I came across that diagram.
