One of my friends inherited his mother's '01 4runner with 300K and it's giving him some problems; slow oil leak, minor electronics issues ( radio display, alarm goes off randomly lol), and he's recently had to replace the Alternator and battery. This is all the problems I'm aware of...

I want to buy it from him and make it a trail rig.

It's got dents and scratches which I don't care how it looks.

My questions is, Anyone driven/owned something similar in year model and milege?

if so, am I about to buy a headache? or does the Toyota reputation for reliability strong with this ho runner model?

Any input is greatly appreciated I'm gonna set up some threads across other websites but I thought I would start at home first.

    Thanks in advance guys!

If the frame is in good shape, and the price is right, I'd buy it and put away some dough for a new motor. There's a lot of engines that could fit and probably be pretty cost effective. Could be a fun deal as long as it's pretty clean other than the old motor.

    OME and worth every penny.
I imagine all the electric problems would go away if you junk that alarm.
