    hi,
i'm loving my new/used 01 tacoma ext cab trd. it currently has goodyear workhorse(235/75 15") on toyota rims, but have been looking for something slightly more road/highway friendly. a friend is selling some bfg ta/ko 265/75 16" on mickey thompson 16x8's (6x5.5 4" backspace)- they look awesome, but 1)willl they fit on my stock trd 4x4 and 2) how much more road worthy are the bfg's. thanks!

Congrats on the truck. What do you mean by "road worthy"? Better mileage and quieter?

I bought an 01 last Halloween, and it had 265/75/16 BFG TA/KOs on and they were fairly loud and got cruddy mileage (the truck got about 17mpg all highway), but it also needed an alignment badly. The tires were unevenly worn all the way around, which I have since read other posts about BFG TAs not wearing evenly. The tires fit on the stock aluminum TRD rims, but I understand that this is the largest tire that will fit stock without a lift. I don't know about the MTs and backspace.

The BFGs have a very similar tread to the goodyears you have, so I think you would have similar noise and mileage. If you want to change that, you would need a more linear tread. I got Michelin LTX AT2s 265/70/16 (stock size for this spec truck), and I am very happy with the sound, mileage, and look. I am getting 19-20 mpg now. But they certainly don't have the more aggressive tread like the TAs.

It is a tradeoff for what is more important to you. Mine is a daily driver with occasional snow and trail use for camping and stuff, not avid offroading.

    Hope this helps a bit.

Yes, they will fit. I have Procomps 8069 16x8 with a 4" back space and BFG's (265/75/16). I just got my new tires last week and im loving them. My MPG are find. I drive like a grandma tho. IDk about the guy above me, but if you rotate your tires like your suppose to. They shouldnt be uneven. BFG has been around for years and i see ppl all the time with BFG on there trucks. They must be doing something right.

Nice wheels. Yeah, I understand the concept of rotation. However, the BFGs on mine were screwed when I bought the truck. One tire had 9/16ths tread, the others were about 5/16ths with uneven wear, and the alignment was so bad, if I let go of the wheel, the truck would head straight for the gutter. They had to go (but I still managed to get $200 for them on craigslist!). The previous owner had obviously neglected them.

thanks for all the replies! again, i have no aftermarket lift and just want something a little smoother on highway(without totally making the truck wimpy looking). can anyone enlighten me about backspacing, offset, etc- i've scoured threads but am still a lil foggy and do not want to spend 1k on the wrong setup. thanks again- great forum.

Its all a matter of choice, but i've ran BFG AT's on all three of my Tacoma's, and i love em. they have always served me well. I just bought a new set in Febuary for my current Tacoma to replace the last set....which i ran for 55k. Size 265/75/16. They had at least 6k left in them. The tire store gave $90 in trade on them. Rotating them every 3000 miles will make a huge difference in making these tires last. As well as making sure you have a good alighnment. You are right about the gas mileage though. I only get 17-18 on the highway. You cant go wrong with the Michelin's you bought either. Thats a very good tire.

If you want 265/75/16s on your taco and your afraid of it rubbing. Id totally recommend a 3" coil spacer for the taco. I had a set and i had no problems with them.
