    Hi all,

Does anyone know how to get to the gear shift letters? They are bubbled up so I want to fix them.

    thank you all!

Talking about the automatic trans gear indicator? I’d like to know too…

Yes, I’ve searched everywhere. I don’t need new ones, just to fix them as they are showing bubbles under.

Anyone have any ideas on this? If I could get this apart, I might have a solution but can't tell without being able to take it apart.

It's not hard to disassemble the auto trans shifter.

If you need video guidance then check out the shifter bushing replacement videos. Better yet- get some replacement bushings, and change them while you have it apart.

The letters are more of an external trim piece of the shifter- you may have to source a used shifter from a partout or similar, unless you have made 3d printing skillz :welder:

I sacrificed mine and found there are two clips you can only get to from the bottom. Basically the top of the shift indicator (35921-35172) above the “P” and below the “L” have a squared off plastic piece that you insert into the plastic bezel around the shifter. This pushes past a plastic nub that locks it in. The letters under that are extremely brittle. Once I get the replacement I’ll add to this thread in hopes it will help others. Every dealer has different pricing. I found mine local for $44.92 plus tax.

    UPDATE:

Finally got it. See pictures. I’m sure there is some way to recreate the letters but I didn’t find anything online and I don’t have a way to do it. This just slides in and it’s locked. I hope this helps others.
