With white smoke and runs extremely rough...I changed out the MAF sensor after reading a few guys had same problem... still does it. Once the truck is warmed up...say 7 minutes tops, it runs fine...I changed out my plugs wires and coil packs about 3 moths ago. . This has been happening for about a month now... it isn't using any oil...I'm truly getting fed up with it. Truck has 209,000 miles is it wore out?!? It isn't throwing any codes but I had it scanned anyway and it's showing a p0300 which I think is random misfires?? I've cleaned the air filter. ... I had the timing belt changed about 2 months ago. Could it be my IAC or my throttle body...what causes white smoke. ..not blue but white...PLEASE HELP

I've been reading some more. ..how do you check for exhaust leaks in your radiator...just pop the cap, start it and look for bubbles?

You mean a blown head gasket?

Blown head gasket. There is nothing more that explains the white smoke other then the fact the engine is allowing coolant into the combustion chamber. Even if you dont have bubbles.

What it sounds like is happening is at dead cold the gasket is allowing leakage, but as it warms up it expands and allows a better seal. Which allows the engine to run normally.

What gives it away is the white smoke and crap running. You could check for cylinder leakage, but at 209K your gaskets have seen better days. I would just get to pulling the heads if it was my truck. Get them resurfaced and presure tested just to make sure they are good to go and replace both gaskets.

Bad head gasket, 100% for sure. Nothing else will cause white smoke.

You can check the plugs to determine which cylinder bank has failed. Check the coolant level to see if it is low. If you pull the radiator cap and there is a vacuum in the system (air sucked in when you remove it) it is a very bad sign. See if you have oil floating on the surface of your coolant. See if there is white residue on the oil dip stick. Run a compression test on your cylinders.

The tests to make sure have already been confirmed. Start small and work your way up. Pull your dipstick and oil cap to see if the oil looks frothy. Then pull a plug and examine it. You can run a compression test (make sure you run it dynamically and not static as you get better readings rhat way and lastly you can run a cylinder leakage test, which will give you more then likely better information then the compression test. Anything past 20% cylinder leakage is bad. Under is normal. Many of your cylinders will read past 20 for sure and you will have low PSI on the compression test.

One more qestion...do you have to remove the cams when taking off the heads or do they come out as an assembly with the heads and valvetrain?

    Yeah.
DOHC = Double OverHead Cam. The cams will come off with the heads.
