    Good Morning,
I recently bought this 02, 2WD, Prerunner, with an automatic trans, and it seemed to be shifting properly......then I washed the engine. Nothing heavy duty, just wet it with the garden hose, sprayed the top of things with Fantastic, washed of the exposed areas with a soft brush. (I have done this before on other vehicles) And now I have to get to 4000 rpm's, and let off the gas to get it to shift out of first, and have not been able to get it to shift out of second. I reset the ECU (a&b) as suggested, with out any immprovement. Help!
    thanks,
    chuck

Light bar and bumper guard, 3/16 steel skid plates for engine, tranny and transfer box, OME 881 springs with 5100 shocks at mid clip. AAL in rear. Positraction rear diff.
Check the throttle valve cable. Make sure nothing is interferring with it. I think it's the only thing from the engine to the auto tranny. O3 and later V6 models don't have it.

also check and be sure you have not pressed in the ect button to the left of the steering wheel. that will cause different shift points

The ect button is on "NORM", and I checked the cable from the top of the engine, then got underneath, all looks normal. Thanks for your suggestions.

check the fluid. pull the dipstick out and check the level but also see if it had a burnt smell to it as that could indicate internal problems of the transmission

I know this is old, but FYI. Had to have the Throttle Position Sensor replaced. Apparently it got wet (supposed to be weather tight???????) when I washed the engine. Believe me, I didn't use any pressure washer. So, one of you guys (TWD ?) was close to correct, with something interfering with the throttle cable. So, $277 later, I good. Thanks,
