So I just finished both 02 sensors and it was completely different than almost every video I’ve seen. The downstream wire runs up underneath passenger seat and I had to pull up carpet to get to it, and upstream was horrible. Above transmission and I had to remove the shifter boot to access the clip where it it’s connected. Why Is my Tacoma different from all the videos I have watched? Took me forever to figure out how to get it replaced7A71449A-5EC3-4586-B85F-03E1F9FA99DB.jpg310E475B-9AA5-42F0-875B-E2785B3811B4.jpg

I haven't had to do the upstream one but the downstream one I had to pull up the carpet to get to the connector under the passenger seat as well.

Well the upstream is worse because there is no room to to work. It took me multiple tries to finally get it. Just don’t know why some are easy and some are not

Im pretty sure it's a different process based on which engine and transmission combo you have, There's a few different ways to access it depending

Did you go with Denso replacements? Just curious cause I've heard a lot of negative experiences with sensors when people use anything other than denso ones

I got my rear o2 Denso from Pep Boys for $90 or so

Yes I did, wanted to do it right the first time so I got the Denso. Also heard negative things about the off brands so I want going to go cheap

Good man, lot of people do go cheap and if there's one thing I've learned with these trucks - it's that you don't want to go cheap on parts if you don't intend on doing the same job twice sooner than necessary

Ya I won’t be going cheap on anything. In about 1,500 miles I have the timing belt service do. Trying to decide weather I should do it or have a dealer do it, but either way I’m going to by the parts for it

Haha you and me both. Mine is due in about 5k miles, at 85k now. Not sure if I want to tackle it or not.

I recently replaced both on my truck, v6 manual as well. I think it was @1997tacomav6 or @CS_AR who recommend using chicken wire to hook the wire and fish it up so you can connect it and be able to fish it when you repeatedly fumble the connector because no room. Worked for me.

Must have been @1997tacomav6 as I don't recall having a problem with the O2 sensors. I do use "Mechanics Wire" to fish items through tight places though.

This procedure is normal for the 02 sensor removal with the 5 speed.
Next time will be a breeze to do it

I actually keep a roll of tie wire handy for fishing situations if needed like this.

Maybe things changed on my 2000

The front one I just reached up unplugged the old one plugged the new one in.

The rear pulled the old grommet out fished the plug out unplugged plugged the new one in.

    Just lazy I guess

The fact I had to drop the exhaust to weld in new bungs is of no interest

Ya next time won’t be bad, I think the hardest part was trying to figure out how to unclip it. But I’ve got 2 new ones so hopefully I wont be doing it for a while now!
