Friend of mind has 02 Tacoma and his driver’s door lock has been giving him some problems. Does anyone know if driver’s and passenger’s locks are interchangeable? He is considering switching them if they are the same. Thanks in advance.

Are talking about the lock assembly inside the door that latches around the striker? If so, the answer is no. They're right opposite of each other.

First, spray some lubricant in it, Tri-Flow is recommended.
If that doesn't help, have a locksmith cut you a new key. Your key and cylinder may have worn down a bit, rounding over the edges on both and it's not lifting the wafers like it should. A new key, even cut from an old key, will have sharper edges and may solve the problem. I'm not talking about the peaks and valleys in the key, but rather the actual edge of the key. The cuts should be flat, not rounded over.

Like was mentioned, the cylinders are handed and not interchangeable.

If you carry a lot of extra weight on your key ring (extra keys, Hello Kitty key ring head, etc...) it will wear out the key and ignition cylinder quite fast and cause problems with the other cylinders.
