Pulling the EFI fuse is a smart move.
My brother has a ‘96 4-cylinder and I think it has the old style ignition. Don’t know what year it changed but I like having the new equivalent of pulling the coil wire.

    Hello everyone.

Thank you for your help. I have followed your advice. Here is what I did, in order.

    1) change the battery to a new one
    2) check that the instrument panel lights up (yes)
    3) inflate the tires to the appropriate pressure
    4) change the oil and oil filter and oil pan washer (OEM Toyota filter purchased on Bezo's website, Mobil brand 5w-30 oil because that's what was lying around)
    5) fill the gas tank with fresh gasoline (regular 87). The vehicle had less than a quarter tank of old gasoline in it prior to adding.
    6) Pull the EFI fuse
    7) Turn the engine over five times, 12.5 seconds each time, with a 30-second rest interval in between times.

After performing these steps, the truck seems to be running fine. I have not yet taken it on the road but expect there will be no problem.

Thank you for your help! Of course, if I did anything wrong, please let me know. I hope this thread can be useful for other novices who let their vehicle sit too long.
