My question is do you need the dampner tool if you are replacing it? Also is it wise to change the water pump while you are there? On the second water pump and t stat from previous owner at 100k. Truck has 230k on it now. And the T belt was changed at toyota at 100 k as well. How long do these belts last?

100K is pushing it for the life of T-belt on a 3.4. WP, t-stat, guide wheels and tensioner all while you're in there. Make one mess and be done with it.

The service interval for the timing belt is every 90k or 100k according to Toyota, I forget which.

and do the water pump at the same time, most kits you buy include the water pump too

Always replace the water pump while it's easy to get at. I had a timing belt break at about 70K on a shift from first to second. It just died. Boom but at least I was able to coast into a parking spot to call a tow truck. The belts are supposed to go 90K but don't always. Better to be early on the maintenance and even better to have a timing chain.

Timing chain Toyotas are all interference though I think? At least the belt driven 5vze is non-interference so you're not totally screwed if it breaks
