Went looking for a Starbucks, ended up in California. Go figure.

Been on the road since Sunday morning. Insane amount of driving, snow, rains, camping in hurricane-like conditions, and more driving still have finally brought me to sunny California a few days ago. Found the first somewhat-working WiFi connection since setting out.

Tomorrow I enter Death Valley from the north-eastern corner!

Amazing work. Question, do the boxes only receive support from the wheel wells and small lip at the front/back. I notice that they are tied down with the turnbuckles. Just wondering. I think that I have to copy this. Thank you for all of your posts and hard work.

The boxes sit on the wheel wells and are tied down with turn buckles on both ends. No other supports.

So far I've learned that even with the quickly setup OZ Tent, taking down and setting up camp every day is too tiring. I must have a hard shell RTT, but won't clear my garage. I think I'll be selling the canopy/cap/shell, bed slide, roof rack, interior canopy rack, OZ Tent, and these storage containers upon my return.

Current idea is to get a bed rack that will work with a tonneau, set up a new fridge slide and kitchen/stove extension (similar to Goose Gear, but not exactly), and a hard shell RTT that'll sit on the bed rack, but below the roof line. Also absolutely need a dual swing out rear bumper.

And here I thought I was done throwing money at the truck...

Maybe I should drive to BC and Help you take all of that useless equipment out of the back of your truck. I'll put in my truck just to help you out. Joking of course. But I really enjoy all of the planning that you have put into this "ongoing" project. I have a Leer cap that I need to put a rack on. Really like the bed-slide, as well as the over the wheel well storage.

Hah. I'd be happy to "move" everything as a whole!

I just dumped a ton of photos to Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eatsleepwoof/

Currently in a Toyota dealership outside of Death Valley, waiting for them to bring in a new matching spare for me so I can pay a stupid amount of money for it. Tore the sidewall on my two week old tire yesterday and am now without a spare (until the new one gets here).

Went over four "stairs" in a canyon yesterday. Nerve-wrecking, but got through with zero damage. Video of the first (easiest) step:

(They told me there was a Starbucks at the end!)

Keep me posted on what you decide to do with that oz-tent. I'm currently looking at buying one and if/when your back if you still want to get ride of it I will scoop it up.

Will do, Steve. Provided my imagined setup of tonneau, rack, and RTT is feasible (will need to do some proper research when I'm back home at the end of the month), you get first dibs on the tent!

FYI, it'll come with the side walls (no front panel), foot print, and unused stakes (Im using different ones).

I went through the same dilemma your going through. I love the idea of the rooftop tent. But I'm more of a go setup camp for a few days have mini adventures then move on kind of person, which is why I am opting for the oz tent.

If I was constantly on the move day in and out, I'd go for roof top as wel. I just found them a pain to use when attached to a vehicle. I was in talks with VMi out of Bellingham, I used my buddies trailer for awhile and loved it but I couldn't see myself dragging a trailer around all the time. Plus the pricing on them is insane. We use to have a guy in Red deer whom was building off road tear drops and his pricing was amazing 20k for the same as the US versions but I see his prick g structure recently changed to USD. :(.

Anyways, hope your enjoying the trip. Shocked you only have 16k on the taco. I just turned over 50k. Mind you I drove to the east coast and back and have crossed the Rockies to Calgary 10 times since I got it that's about 30k right there.

I was thinking a RTT at one point as well but figured not worth it.
if you keep it above the roof line it causes so much drag, if you keep it below you lose bed space.
its a lot of weight to keep on the truck and since my truck is also daily driven it would be a pain to remove all the time.

Ground tent just works better for me. Picked up a MSR Elixir 3 person and it works great for the girlfriend and I, plus its light so if I go backpack camping I can still use the same one.
