I'm trying to tap into the vss wire to install a new radio, and I'm having a hell of a time locating it. I was on the phone with crutchfield and they first told me it was pin 21 of 28 on the E6 module on the ECM, where I found a solid orange wire, they then called back and said it was pin 21 of 22 on E6, where I found no wires installed. Looking at the wiring diagram in the Haynes Repair manual there are 2 grn/org wires coming out of the ECM and no solid orange wires. I have found one grn/org wire at pin 7 of 28 on E6. Can I assume they were right the first time and I just have a different color wire? Or should I tap into the only grn/org wire that I found? Under the dash I have found multiple grn/org wires, can I assume any of those are good to go? Thanks, this it my first time doing this kind of wiring.

In location in the above thread I have a green/light green wire, and next to it instead of empty slots I have an orange and blue wire. The orange wire is the one crutchfield originally directed me to. Any way to test it before splicing?

So the VSS wore is AC Volts. You’d have to have a piercing probe for your multi-meter and actually drive the truck with the meter hooked up. You would need to see the voltage rise as you speed up, and fall as you slow down. Pretty difficult to do honestly.

But as a random note, VSS is not ‘required’ anymore. And I personally haven’t found that a radio is more or less accurate with or without it

Unfortunately the rep said this is one of the few radios that does require this sensor.

I would be extremely surprised if it actually needed the VSS wire

Thanks! I ended up just going in behind the dash and finding the wire there. Pin 3 on the brown 13 pin connector if anyone else runs into this issue.
