seriously. how tight did you crank it down, or how long was it left on?

finger/hand tighten only people. I've never had a stuck filter but I use this to start the loosening process:

well sometimes people go to those oil change rip off places and they crank them suckers till they don't turn anymore so maybe that could be the cause?

I have tried most of the oil filter "cups" and most are dual sized which means they don't work worth a shit for either size filter and just slip. the same goes for those thin stamped steel filter cups, they have no strength and will slip off making people "think" the filter is stuck.

people, you need to get a good cast aluminum filter cup sized for the filter you have, or get something like frizz posted above so it gets a "proper" grip on the filter to turn it.

    they look like this

and like frizz said, DONT TIGHTEN IT WITH ANYTHING BUT YOUR HAND

The "oil change rip off place" is exactly why im in this mess now. Normally do all my own maintenance but for some reason i didnt this last time around. Will definitely think twice about it next time around

well then you can go back to them again and ask to speak to manager and insist they put the new filter on by hand this time.

then just to be safe, when you get home, loosen it before it gets stuck and you tighten it by hand.

another reason for oil filters to be sticking is if they install it with a dry seal. the oil rubbed on the seal isn't just to help it make a good seal, but its also a form of never seize for the gasket too when you need to unscrew it.

this way YOU don't have to fight with the problem they caused and you just pay them for one more and last oil and filter change
