I'm wondering the same since the mirror cracked this winter. Also I have thought about putting an LED turn signal in the mirror body. I have a couple of those Whelen strobe flashers that might work.

99-02 limited 4runners came with heated mirrors. I believe all 00-02 have heated mirrors, 99s had to be limited. They are wired into the stock rear window defrost circuit, so there is no switch. You could easily wire up a switch, or potentially tap into the tacoma defrost circuit. You would need to make sure the circuit could handle the extra load though.

I started documenting mirrors in an attempt to get power folding ones from a Hilux Surf:

    Yes.

I bought 2000 4Runner Mirrors which ae heated from the factory. It should be as easy as splicing the existing Tacoma wires and adding in a timer circuit for the heater control. The glass is the exact same size as the Tacoma one, so the 4Runmer glass should bolt up.

Defrost mirrors, compass/temp display rear view mirror, rear wiper on camper shell, trans.cooler.
I did the heated mirrors on my 2003.
I used a Volvo V-70 Defrost timer. I then found a Mirror defrost switch that had the look I liked and fit the Tacoma.
After removing the mirrors from the housing. Take a slim piece of metal/ putty knife (hacksaw blade)and carefully heat it up then slide it under the mirror to remove the glue.
I bought motorcycle heated hand grips an glued them in place behind the mirror.
